CHAPTER 01 · THE NAME

From Kutadgu Bilig to biliq

Kutadgu Bilig, written by Yusuf Has Hajib in 1069, means “the knowledge that brings happiness”. Our name comes from its ancient root word: bilig.

We swapped the final g for a q. It made the name our own, and turned the word into a mirror around the l in its middle — roots reflected into the future.

The abundance motif

In Anatolian kilims, the abundance motif — joined with the ram’s horn — stands for plenty and productivity. We re-wove it, pixel by pixel.
